4 innovation systems of Qingdao enjoying the leading position in China

On December17th, the Qingdao Science and Technology (S&T) Innovation Index Report of2017 was issued. This is the first time that Qingdao has issued the S&T innovation index. According to the report, Qingdao enjoys the leading position in China in terms of4 innovation systems, namely marine science and technology, high-speed train research and development, intellectual property output, and business incubation.

The marine science and technology is the hallmark of Qingdao. Currently Qingdao has established nationwide and even global leading advantages. A batch of innovation platforms have successively been located in Qingdao including the Qingdao National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology, National Deep Sea Center, National Marine Equipment Quality Supervision and Inspection Center and Marine Equipment Research Institute under China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC). The internationally leading marine technology Qingdao has accounts for44.4% of China’s total technology. Therefore the development advantage is remarkable.

Qingdao possesses solid industrial bases and remarkable innovation capability in the field of rail transportation equipment. As the first national technology innovation center, the National High-speed Train Technology Innovation Center is constructed here. Currently, the Chengyang World MU Train Town has clustered the core enterprises of rail transportation equipment including the CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co., Ltd. and Bombardier and over120 supporting enterprises, where the local matching rate of products reaches about40%,65% MU trains for operation, and25% metro vehicles in China are produced and the industrial clustering level ranks1st in China.

In terms of intellectual property, from2013 to2016, the annual number of Qingdao invention patent application exceeded30,000, enjoying the forefront among similar cities. In2016, the number of granted invention patents reached6,561 and the growth rate ranked2nd among similar cities.

The Qingdao National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology is under expansion

On December18th, the construction of the east park of the Qingdao National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology formally commenced.

Currently, in the west park of Qingdao National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology, a harmonious pattern of development characterized by sound infrastructures, beautiful environment, the clustering of large-scale scientific research platforms and teams has been created.

With a total construction area of about36,000 square meters, the east park after completion will emphasize on the related research on fields including marine technology and equipment, new marine material and new marine energy, advance the great-leap-forward development of Chinese new and high marine science and technology research, establish the independent innovation research system and technological development system of Chinese high-end marine instruments and equipment, strategic new marine material, marine energy exploitation, and utilization and improve the Chinese research and development capability in new and high marine technology and equipment to the internationally advanced level. Qingdao to be built into a strong city in traditional Chinese medicine

Last week, the Implementation Program for Qingdao Carrying Out Traditional Chinese Medicine Development Strategic Planning Outline was issued. According to the program, by2030, Qingdao will be built into a strong city in the traditional Chinese medicine and the traditional Chinese medicine service will cover all over the city.

According to the program, by2020, every one in Qingdao will basically have access to the traditional Chinese medicine service. The number of the bed per1,000 people in public traditional Chinese medicine hospitals will reach0.58, the number of certified doctors or assistant doctors practicing traditional Chinese medicine per1,000 will reach0.42.100% of the community health service institutions, health centers at town level and village clinics will possess the capability of providing the traditional Chinese medicine service. Meanwhile, Qingdao will train and introduce10 masters in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM),15 nationally famous TCM doctors, construct10 national and provincial demonstration areas in TCM health tourism and10 TCM culture featured towns or blocks.

By2030, the TCM service will account for over20% of the total medical service in Qingdao and the TCM service at the grassroots level will account for over30% of the total medical service. A professional team of traditional Chinese medicine will be formed including10 national TCM masters,30 nationally famous TCM doctors (national outstanding clinic and research talents in TCM),300 provincially and municipally famous doctors and1,000 key young and middle-aged TCM doctors. Deloitte boosting innovation in Qingdao

On December15th, the ceremony of Qingdao and Deloitte China signing the strategic cooperation agreement and Deloitte (Qingdao) Business Innovation Service Center for Medium-sized and Small Enterprises inauguration was held in Qingdao.

According to the agreement, the Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Commerce and Deloitte China will establish the professional investment consultation working mechanism of attracting investments for modern industries, Deloitte China will aid Qingdao to advance the shift from the old energy of motion to the new, speed up the implementation of targeted investment attraction for modern industries. Deloitte China and its associated institutions will set up branches in Qingdao to provide professional services to the related Qingdao enterprises and expand their business by basing themselves in Qingdao.
